The first post on my new blog site, and with it being general election year in the UK, I thought this was very appropriate. Though I have no wish to discuss politics on this site, I’ve wanted to take a perfect photograph of the Houses of Parliament for years. It is truly an iconic part of London, and presents many photo opportunities.
This was taken during Trey Ratcliff’s London Photo Walk in February 2015. My wife and I had long lost the group by this time, but with the lights on the bridge glowing across the Thames, I knew it was a time to picture the scene. Even after merging the different exposures together, the blur effect on the water was not that great, so the blur on the river was largely created by the Gaussian blur tool in Photoshop, rather than in-camera. I always thought this would turn out to be a monochromatic image, as it goes with the time and mood the photo was taken in.
